REVIEWS
I recently got the
book entitled DONNA SUMMER: FOR THE RECORD
by Craig Halstead and cannot recommend it highly enough!!
This book is
primarily a highly detailed discography that covers every Donna released and
unreleased track I have ever heard of, (I cannot swear its totally complete but
it sure seems close if it’s not!)
from Denver Dream and early performances with The Crow, all the way through To
Paris With Love,
spanning songs from her entire career to date. There are black and white photos
of virtually all albums and singles covers.
Many rare, hard to find tracks are mentioned as well as albums on which they
appear as compilations, etc.
Someone really, really did a fantastic job with this, it was compiled by a true
fan!! From Sometimes Like Butterflies to the tracks from
Moonflowers and Mini Skirts, Funky Frauleins vol. II. and more.
Also included are
many, many quotes from Donna discussing various songs over the years, tons of
information
and backstory on unreleased tracks, info on tracks on which she sang background
vocals, such as for other artists;
tracks she sang with or background on for Brooklyn Dreams, a complete
discography,
indexes of television and film appearances, concerts, venues, set lists, and
more.
I am so thrilled
with this book, I couldn’t put it down without reading it all cover to cover.
This is a priceless resource for Donna collectors. I believe there are similar
titles for
Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston.
